With such a rich history, you may already expect that Texas has a fair amount of museums. There is always something new to learn, so here are three must-see museums in Irving.

Ruth Paine House Museum

The Ruth Paine House Museum has deep roots in history because it’s where Lee Harvey Oswald stayed the night before that fateful day on November 22, 1963, when he assassinated President John F. Kennedy. The original house has been restored over the years and is now a museum that residents and visitors to Irving can visit to see how it looked in the 1960s and learn about the events that occurred there.

ICR Discovery Center for Science & Earth History

Located just 10 miles north in Dallas is the ICR Discovery Center for Science & Earth History, which hosts planetarium shows and exhibits that show the relationship between the Bible and science. Kids can learn more about DNA, fossils, astronomy, and more through presentations and exhibits that help develop critical thinking skills and an appreciation for science.

The Mustangs of Las Colinas Museum and Sculpture

Take one visit to Williams Square in the Las Colinas Urban Center , and you’ll immediately see the bronze sculpture of nine wild mustangs in mid-gallop. The golf course at Hackberry Creek Country Club is more than 7,000 yards long and was designed by golf professional Bryon Nelson. At Haute Sweets Patisserie, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with delectable delights such as French macaroons available in 12 scrumptious flavors like tart strawberry, salted caramel, and rich coffee.  If you want something larger, order a 6-. 8-, or 10-inch cake in flavors such as Red Velvet, Italian Cream, or Chocolate Truffle. Place your order Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Creme de la Cookie

When your palate is aching for something sweet but you aren’t sure what you want, check the menu at Creme de le Cookie where owner/baker Toni Rivard has created a visually enticing menu. Select from an assortment of French macaroons, assorted cookies such as the OMG chocolate chip cookie named as a top 10 cookie by Forbes, cupcakes, brownies, muffins, cakes, pies, and more. Place an order for pick-up or have it shipped, either way, you’ll be glad you did.

Bingbox

Ice cream and frozen yogurt are delicious, but Korean shaved ice, known as bingsu, is at a whole other level of delicious. With a visit to Bingbox, you’ll experience flavorful shaved ice infused with assorted flavors such as mango and chocolate then quickly frozen creating tasty snow cream. The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday.

Preparing for a road trip requires a lot of things be done before heading out for the open highway and that includes getting your car road ready.

Under the Hood

Belts and hoses make the world of a car go round and round. Check each for leaking, fraying, cracking, and that belts are taut, not sagging. It’s also important to check the air filter and replace it with a new one.

Brakes and Tires

You rely on the brakes for a safe and secure ride. Before heading out, have the brake pads checked and replaced, if needed. Like the brakes, tires are relied upon for a safe journey. Tires should be rotated between 5,000 and 8,000 miles. If the tires are due for rotation, have this done beforehand. If the tires are at or near the end of their lifespan, have them replaced. If not, it’s important to have the air pressure at the appropriate level for each tire.

Fluids

Your car relies on several fluids to keep the parts lubricated and running smoothly. These include topping off or changing old oil, topping off the radiator fluid as well as the brake fluid. Power steering fluid can become contaminated, making it difficult to maneuver. Transmission fluid keeps the gears working efficiently and should be checked, and replaced, if necessary.

Last but not least, don’t forget the windshield cleaning fluid. Purchase a jug and a funnel and fill or top off the reservoir. Bring the remaining fluid along for the road trip in case it’s needed.

Once you’ve completed the check list to ensure safety, you and your car will be ready to ride with confidence.
