North Texas has a diverse and interesting history, so it’s no surprise that there are several spots in and around Irving, Texas, that history buffs will enjoy. Here are two Irving-area landmarks that history buffs won’t want to miss.
- Old City Park
Old City Park is an open-air museum featuring pioneer and Victorian homes and commercial buildings dating back to the 19th century. This collection of buildings was transported from all over North Texas to create Dallas’ first city park. As you stroll down the park’s tree-shaded paths, you’ll discover what everyday life was like for North Texas residents over 100 years ago. Old City Park hosts several programs, such as a blacksmithing presentation where visitors can learn fundamental blacksmithing skills using an anvil, hammer, and other tools. In addition, several spaces in the park are available to rent for weddings and other special celebrations.
- The Mustangs of Las Colinas
The Mustangs of Las Colinas is a bronze statue of nine mustangs galloping across a stream. Local businessman Ben H. Carpenter commissioned these breathtakingly life-like horses to commemorate the family ranch that once sat on the land that is now Irving’s Las Colinas neighborhood. At the Mustangs Museum, visitors can learn about the history of Las Colinas and the process of creating the statues. Be sure to stop by the Museum Store, where you can find Texas-themed books, souvenirs, and unique gifts.
These are just two of the many area landmarks that Irving history buffs are sure to enjoy. So plan your visit today, and explore the area’s unique stories.
