Mitsuhishi Battery Service Near Fort Worth TX | Don Herring Irving Mitsubishi

Don Herring Irving Mitsubishi has had many Fort Worth area customers who have experienced a weak, or dead battery. There are several possible reasons that your vehicle's battery might run down, or not have the proper charge. With most new cars having passive entry and keyless ignition, the battery in your Mitsubishi car or SUV is always experiencing a slow drain on the battery when not running. If you leave the lights on, or if the weather is really cold, the battery can easily lose it’s charge. Here are a few tips to recharge your car's battery to try to extend battery life.

The easiest short term solution to get your battery recharged is by jump starting the car. You will need to have a pair of jumper cables and another vehicle in order to do this. We strongly suggest that you should also wear eye protection and gloves for protection against battery acid in case of a severe battery failure. Jump starting a vehicle is quick, but sometimes this procedure won't work if the battery is almost completely out of charge, or is suffering from a dead cell. Jump starting your car will not fully recharge the battery and bring it back to optimal charge level alone. You may need to drive it for an extended period, running a minimal number of accessories, including the radio. If possible use a portable battery charger to restore the battery charge to optimal.

The best way to recharge a battery is to use a portable battery charger, somewhere around 6 or 8 amps, so that you will slow charge the battery and possibly avoid causing the battery fluid to boil and lose some of it. To use a charger, place the red clamp on the battery's positive terminal and the black clamp on the negative terminal. If you are using a 6 amp charger, it charges the battery at about 6 amps per hour. If the battery was not completely discharged usually a couple of hours will restore the charge. But if the battery was completely discharged you may want to let it charge several hours. We do not recommend you leave your vehicle unattended over night with it on a portable charger. Some do not automatically cut off when the battery is fully charged and could pose a hazard. Plug the charger in and allow the battery to charge for some period of time that you feel is adequate while you monitor the situation. We strongly recommend that when servicing the battery in your car that you wear eye protection and gloves. Battery acid can cause severe burns, loss of vision and severe injury in case of a battery explosion. It will also cause corrosion damage to your vehicle if it is allowed to contact the metal. It may be in your best interest to bring your car to Don Herring Irving Mitsubishi for Battery Service.
